Logbook Suite in Detail

The software package Logbook Suite is available for Mac, Windows and iPad. The versions for Mac and Windows (Mac with MacOS 10.11, 64 bit, or newer, Windows with Windows 7, 32 bit or 64 bit, or newer) can directly be downloaded from our website. The version for iPad can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. Please click the links on the right side of this page to download the versions for free.
Using the links on this site you can download your free trial version of Logbook Suite. The trial version provides all features of the full version, but is limited to a few entries, for example for Logbook to 5 travel days and 2 trips.
If we have convinced you, you can purchase a license for Logbook Suite in our online shop and convert your demo version for PC or iPad into a full version.

You can use Logbook Suite either only on iPad or only on PC or alternately on iPad and on the PC in parallel. The data can easily be exchanged between PC and iPad with iTunes or the sync feature.

Using Logbook with NMEA connection

Logbook Suite provides for both the PC (Mac and Windows) and the iPad an extension to enter the navigation data from NMEA data sources directly into the logbook. To use this feature the PC NMEA license for the PC or iPad is needed.

The PC NMEA license supports NMEA0183 data sources that are connected via USB, Bluetooth or WiFi to the PC. Pure NMEA2000 data sources are currently not supported.

The NMEA function for iPad supports both NMEA0183 and NMEA2000 data sources that are connected via WiFi, Bluetooth or cable adapter to the iPad. The connection between Logbook and the data source is accomplished with the iPad app LogbookNMEA connect, which is part of the NMEA license for iPad and can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store. On the right side of this page you will find a button which shows a list of supported hardware with preset configurations. If you want to use a hardware that is not listed, please contact our support.

Depending on the type of data source, the following data can be entered automatically into your logbook from data source (NMEA0183 or NMEA2000):

  • board time and time in UTC
  • position
  • course over ground (COG )
  • speed over ground ( SOG)
  • wind direction and wind speed
  • LOG or TRIP
  • air pressure, temperature and humidity
  • on the tab Weather: water temperature

If your iPad is connected to a NMEA2000 network it can also read the engine operating hours (if available in the network).

Please note that GPS mice or the internal GPS of the iPad does not provide wind data.

The NMEA function for iPad also simplifies the data entry into Logbook if you are not connected to an external NMEA data source. If your iPad is equipped with an internal GPS module the GPS data from the internal GPS can be captured significantly better using the Add-on then without, because LogbookNMEA connect reads the data until it has received reliable data and only then passes it on to Logbook. LogbookNMEA connect additionally calculates course and speed over ground from the iPad’s GPS. So you get two additional values that are automatically entered into your Logbook.

During the demo phase (if less than 5 days are compiled in the log) you can also test the NMEA function on the PC and the iPad. As soon as more than 5 days have been compiled, the NMEA function is only available when a serial number for the NMEA license (PC or iPad) has been entered.
